Description: We are delighted to welcome Professor Iain Chapple, renowned Professor of Periodontology, to the South West to help the dental team effectively diagnose, classify and manage periodontal disease and discuss the links between periodontitis and systemic health. He will be joined by Mike Wheeler, NHS England's Programme Manager for Dental Apprenticeships. Prof. Chapple and Mr Wheeler will examine the current evidence base and explore how the whole dental team can work together to achieve improved periodontal, and therefore systemic, health for their patients.

Description: Wendy Bellis is a Specialist Paediatric Dentist and Honorary Clinical Senior Teaching Fellow at the Eastman Dental Institute. Her areas of expertise are in behaviour management of children and dental management of the autistic child. Wendy's clinical work has almost exclusively been in the field of autistic spectrum disorder and she lectures widely at national and international level on this subject. We are very fortunate that Wendy has agreed to return to the Southwest and share her knowledge and experience with us on a topic that is encountered regularly in general dental practice as well as the more specialised services. This course is open to all members of the team who encounter children in their working lives.

Description: NHS Workforce Training and Education (NHS WTE) invite all dentists who are new to our region, new to the NHS and working toward their Performer Numbers (Agreement Terms) to join us on Thursday 10th October. This is a great opportunity to meet other dentists which we understand can be challenging. As well as sharing our experiences of working in the UK so far, this will be a good time to ensure everyone is comfortable with the NHS Rules and Regulations. We will also be exploring the principles of clinical governance and introducing the concept of audit and its importance in clinical dentistry. Malcolm will be encouraging us to design our own audits and appreciate the value of introducing these into our practices. This event is free to attend and includes lunch.
