Description: Please join Dr Sami Stagnell (Specialist Oral Surgeon) for 'Wisdom Tooth Assessment in General Practice'. This is a great opportunity to improve our understanding of anatomy, and the common issues associated with wisdom teeth including impaction and infection. We will be discussing clinical and radiographic assessment, NICE and FDS guidelines and when these teeth should be extracted. Using case studies and practical scenarios we will consider which patients should be referred, the risks of surgery and how we can discuss this with our patients. Description: Rick Kerr (Senior Surgeon) and the team from Exeter, will be joining us virtually for a unique opportunity to offer help to those of us that find dental extractions challenging. This is the first of a two part course. This small group will enable the learning needs of all participants to be addressed. Rick is happy to look at radiographs and discuss cases with participants. Over the two sessions we will be considering what is appropriate in general practice, important patient and medical factors, practical challenges, key instruments and the principles of sectioning teeth, elevating roots and when and how to raise a flap. COVID has changed practice for all of us, where triage prioritises face to face care for dental emergencies.
