Description: Domestic abuse is a major public health issue affecting over two million people in England and Wales in 2018 (1.3 women/695,000 men), with two women on average, being killed by their present or former partners each week. Inflicted injuries primarily involve the head, face and neck with domestic abuse being the principle cause of oral maxillofacial trauma. Patients experiencing domestic abuse may also exhibit signs of extreme stress or anxiety including hair loss, difficulty eating, dental neglect or fear of dental care. As such, dental team members are in a key position to identify early signs of family violence and initiate support and safety for victims. This will be an interactive course using a variety of teaching methods including theoretical input, case discussions and group work. The content will enable delegates to meet the requirements of Level 1 training as outlined in NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) standards
