Aims

To discuss partial denture theory with emphasis on: principles of denture design, overdentures, overlay dentures, management of free end saddles and briefly rehabilitation of patients with palatal defects.

To discuss complete denture theory with emphasis on: principles of complete denture design, impression techniques, occlusal registration techniques, management of flabby ridges, and basic implant retained overdentures.

Objectives

By the end of the event delegates will be able to:

Summarise the principles of partial and complete denture design

Describe which impression and occlusal registration techniques may be appropriate when managing a removable prosthodontic patient.

List the design features of overlay/overdentures.

Clinically manage a patient with combination syndrome predictably.

Describe the principles of duplicate and immediate denture prosthodontics.

Describe the attachment systems of basic implant retained overdentures.

Recall that patients with palatal defects can be rehabilitated with obturators and need referral to a specialist centre.
