DescriptionQuality Improvement Course This programme is suitable for dentists, practice managers or dental care professionals who hold a leadership role and are able to implement change within their workplace. Participants are expected to attend each session and undertake a quality improvement project using the techniques they learn over the course of the programme. Participants are encouraged to undertake projects that benefit the local NHS and link in with flexible commissioning. Potential projects could include increasing the delivery of topical Fluoride to vulnerable groups, increasing access for patients with dental pain, using the dental hygienist more efficiently or improving the morale of the dental workforce during Covid-19.

Aims

The purpose of the programme is to develop participants as improvers that can both deliver and lead quality improvement projects within their organisation.

Objectives

•I will understand the importance of problem diagnosis and to use some simple diagnostic tools

•I will be able to use creativity to generate and appraise change ideas and then plan and implement them

•I will understand the importance and benefits of measurement for improvement being able to define measures for a specific project and interpret improvement data

•I will have an increased understanding of the human side of change.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to

Identify opportunities for improvement in the management of key priorities within their organisation.

Lead quality improvement projects using improvement knowledge and skills to implement changes within the organisation.

Develop quality improvement capability and help create a culture of a continuous improvement focused organisation.
