Description | This is an accredited training course in inhalation sedation for ‘new starters’. A ‘new starter’ is defined as a dental professional who has not received accredited training in inhalation sedation or was not adequately trianed and experienced in that technique prior to June 2015.
Additional information | Who is the course for? Dental professionals in non-training roles where administering or assisting for IHS techniques are part of their scope of practice (Dentist, Dental Nurse, Dental Therapist). The applicant should currently be working within a role where they have access to inhalation sedation as at least 10 cases will be needed in order to complete training. Health Education England’s role is to assist in “providing the training to enable achievement of relevant skills and knowledge in order to provide high quality care”. However, assessment and certification for independent practice using inhalation sedation are not the responsibility of HEE and hence cannot be provided. Therefore, it is essental that any delegates have a STAC accredited supervisor who can mentor the applicant and undertake supervision, assessment and certification. Completion of the course alone will not enable the delegate to undertake inhalation sedation independently. Process for certification: · All mentors will need to apply for individual STAC accreditation (individual cost of (£100) · Candidates attend the theory course and successfully complete assessment · They complete the minimum number of assessments satisfactorily with accredited mentor · Certificate can be issued by their mentor
