Description: This course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an Introduction to dentistry in the NHS and is essential for dentists undertaking Dental Foundation Training by Equivalence (DFTQ). This course is also suitable for dentists who are new to the NHS and dentists returning to NHS practice. Other dentists are also invited to attend this training. The Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 (IRR99) and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure Regulations 2000 (IR(ME)R 2000) govern the use of ionising radiation in the UK. The GDC recommends that all Dentists and DCPs complete at least 5 hours of CPD in radiography and radiation protection every CPD cycle. As such, this course satisfies Schedule 2 of the IRMER regulations for practitioners, and operators involved in X-raying patients, as well as core CPD requirements for the whole dental team, as recommended by the GDC. Learners should be aware Guidance Notes for Dental Practitioners on the Safe Use of X-ray equipment (DH, 2001) and Selection Criteria for Dental Radiography (FGDP (UK) RCS, 2013) are key reference guidelines/publications and essential reading for all dental professionals before and after the course.
