Description: The aim of this practical course is to provide information and training in minor oral surgery activities relevant to the GDP. Topics covered will include: * Overview of minor oral surgery in general dental practice * Effective local anaesthesia * Simulated oral surgery procedures on models such as surgical removal of lower molar roots and impacted lower third molars * Hands-on training in flap design, bone removal and suturing on models * Selection criteria for dento-alveolar referral from primary to secondary care. Oral surgery practices will be performed on Oral Surgery Jaw Models in the well-equipped Dental Simulation Suite, Kadoorie Skills Centre Oxford JRH. The course is run in an informal setting where questions and debate are actively encouraged. Delegates are encouraged to bring radiographs of MOS referrals that 'haven't met the criteria for referral to secondary care' and/or cases they would like to discuss with our speakers. He qualified with a National Diploma in Dental Technology from Southampton College in 1985. In 1998 he gained his Higher National Certificate in Prosthetics at Lambeth College. While there, Jonathan won the Dentsply Prosthetics award for 1997 and 1998, he was the first student to win this award in two consecutive years. In 2000 he completed a Cert Ed at Portsmouth University and returned to Southampton on a part time basis teaching prosthetics. During this period he also worked as a Senior Dental Technician at the prestigious Eastman Dental Hospital, London Jonathan qualified in 2008 from the Royal College of Surgeons with a Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology. He now runs a private denture clinic together with a specialist prosthodontist, alongside his long established dental laboratory.
