This course provides bespoke best practice guidance on the management of the unwell patient in the dental setting. The Quick Reference Guide (QRG) is a clinical handbook, developed by the dental medical emergencies team for the dental setting, outlining condition specific treatment pathways. Description: This 3 day course is designed to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge for GDC registered Dental Nurses to confidently deliver oral health messages and apply topical fluoride varnish to adults and children on prescription from a Dentist. In addition, the course aims to ensure dental nurses are ready to support patients and the dental team when the New prevention led NHS contract is implemented in 2020. The practical skills for this competency will be achieved through the support, training, advice and observation from a GDC registered Dentist or Hygiene Therapist who will act as the Dental Nurse work-based clinical mentor. To achieve competency delegates will be required to: > Complete 10 work-based reflective logs [confirmed as a safe beginner by an occupationally competent mentor] > Create and evaluate a workplace display > Achieve a satisfactory pass mark in all session assessments Dental Nurse applicants must ensure they have personal, employer or Crown indeminity in place to undertake this course and be up to date with basic life support training.
