Description | THIS COURSE IS FOR UP TO 6 MEMBERS OF AN EXISTING DENTAL TEAM – see additional information for details. Medical Emergencies in the dental setting are rare, but may occur at any time. This course provides bespoke best practice guidance on the management of the unwell patient in the dental setting. The Quick Reference Guide (QRG) is a clinical handbook, developed by the dental medical emergencies team for the dental setting, outlining condition specific treatment pathways. It is designed to be used as a clinical tool in the event of an emergency in addition to being a learning resource for dental teams throughout the CPD cycle. The high fidelity simulation suite offers teams the opportunity to practice and develop the skills required to safely manage any dental medical emergency with confidence. The day involves a morning of interactive lectures that focus on the ABCDE assessment, medical conditions and associated equipment. The afternoon is dedicated to simulation were peer and audio visual feedback is used to enhance the learning experience. |

Aims | This course aims to provide a variety of learning opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in relation to the common medical emergencies in the dental setting. This includes the ABCDE patient assessment, medical conditions and emergency equipment familiarity. |
Objectives | In addition to pre-course preparation, on completion of the course candidates will; Be able to apply the ABCDE assessment to any unwell patient Be able to use the ABDCE to deliver preliminary treatment and plan for discharge and/or escalation Be able to safely assemble and use associated medical emergency equipment and medicines Be familiar with condition treatment pathways as featured in the QRGs. Be able to reflect on team working and working the environment to optimise team response in the event of a medical emergency |
