Aims | Aims: By the end of the course, delegates will: Have an understanding of the legal and ethical principles underpinning informed consent; Be able to obtain appropriate, valid and informed consent from patients; and Understand and apply good practice in clinical record keeping, including Best Practice. |
Objectives | Objectives: To discuss the current legal principles which shape the obtaining of informed consent; Apply legal and ethical principles in a manner which is consistent with GDC Standards; Understand the different types of consent and when each should be gained; Understand and apply this knowledge to the recording of valid consent; Be aware of current guidance relating to clinical record keeping; Describe aspects of clinical records which may be said to be below, at or exceeding standards; Identify areas of record keeping practice which may be captured by clinical audit; Critically appraise clinical records (including self-appraisal) in order to inform future practice |
