Description: Please join us for an interactive and practical update day on IV sedation, cannulation and venepuncture. The course is suitable for all members of the team providing sedation as part of the requirements for the recommended 12 hours of sedation-related verifiable CPD in each 5 year cycle. Theory sessions will cover patient assessment, safety and cannulation tips and tricks and how to manage those difficult situations. Hands on activities will include cannulation practice on training arms then an opportunity to practice on each other in a clinical setting in the Exeter Dental Education Clinical Teaching Facility. Chris Bell and Tim Harris have a wealth of experience in dental IV sedation and share their top tips in a relaxed atmosphere. This will be a relatively small group. A similar course will be available in the north of the region earlier in 2025.

Description: Rick Kerr (Senior Surgeon) and the team from Exeter, will be joining us virtually for a unique opportunity to offer help to those of us that find dental extractions challenging. This is the first of a two part course. This small group will enable the learning needs of all participants to be addressed. Rick is happy to look at radiographs and discuss cases with participants. Over the two sessions we will be considering what is appropriate in general practice, important patient and medical factors, practical challenges, key instruments and the principles of sectioning teeth, elevating roots and when and how to raise a flap.

There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion. All members of the dental team are very welcome. This course will be particularly useful for those of us whose undergraduate training only touched on this subject. Suitable for dentists working toward their Performer Number.

If you are having trouble with OPT'S or using the paralleling technique for intra-oral radiographs or just want to confirm that you are doing it correctly, Tim Huckstep, Radiographer in the Dental Departments of Derriford Hospital will guide you through! Bring your own kit and he will be able to give you tips on how to get the best out of your equipment.
