Description: A days course covering the core topic requirements of infection control in order to understand our legal and professional obligations. The day will include theory of disease and infection, the standard precautions we should all be undertaking, including a practical hand hygiene session. Risk assessments, COSSH, RIDDOR and waste management will be discussed as will antimicrobial stewardship. This day is being led by Nikolai Stankiewicz, a busy practice owner who understands the pressures of general dental practice and has a strong interest in infection control and bringing an evidence based approach to how current guidance applies to General Dental Practice. Nikolai is one of the few dental members of the Infection Prevention Society and received an award as The Kaplan Open Learning Top Postgraduate Health Graduate for his MSc on infection control.

Janet Clarke, Formerly Deputy Chief Dental Officer will give insight into the national context, NHS Long Term Plan and Commissioning Standard for Vulnerable People and John Makin, Head of the DDU will cover informed consent for those individuals who lack capacity, and the pitfalls surrounding this issue.

Description: Roger Yates has been successfully treating periodontal disease and its sequelae for over 30 years in conjunction with the dental team. This one day programme offers a revision of the aetiology and classification of periodontal disease. We will be exploring the relevance of history, examination and charting. Roger will be discussing disease management, with a view to improving treatment outcomes, utilising the whole dental team. The course will take a evidence based approach, using case presentations with plenty of clinical tips and opportunity for questions. Roger understands the challenges of managing periodontal disease within our current system, and will include accessing secondary care in the South West, and how this could change in the future following work being carried out by the Managed Clinical Newtork (MCN).
