Description: This days course covers occlusal splints, occlusion and how to fix it. Topics include occlusal splints for TMD, bruxists, clenchers, headaches, TMJ clicks, TMJ pain, snorers, tooth wear and cracked tooth syndrome. The practical elements cover the clinical records including facebows and occlusal records through to the fitting and adjustment of all splints including Michigan and Tanner appliances. On this lecture and table top based practical course you will fit a variety of splints onto phantom head models, including the adjustment of Michigan splints.

Description: Carla and Tim will be joining us in Bath to explore how we can become better at taking out teeth. We will be discussing potential difficulties, intact teeth and retained roots. The principles of sectioning teeth and flap design will also be considered. This is a small group course with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion. We will be using synthetic skin and oral surgery models to illustrate extraction techniques.

If you are having trouble with OPTs or using the paralleling technique for intra-oral radiographs or just want to confirm that you are doing it correctly, Tim Huckstep, Radiographer in the Dental Departments of Derriford Hospital will guide you through! Bring your own kit and he will be able to give you tips on how to get the best out of your equipment. Please note: due to the size of the room we are limited to 6 participants for the session - early booking is advised!

Description: The course is intended as an overview of the problems facing an increasingly aged dental population.Patients are keeping their teeth longer and are surviving longer due to advances in medical care and medications. With increasing age comes the problems of reducing mobility, poor diet due to low income, dry mouth through polyphamacy, reduction in care due to limitations on home/care home funding and increasing incidance of the many forms of dementia. Dental treatment needs to be aligned with the specific needs of the patient; likewise the clinician is in an ideal posistion to monitor the patient's general health and involve other facets of the care network. Current guidelines sugest simplicity in treatment , an holistic approach, and working from the ground up- working with the family and carers regarding diet and prevention, and with General Medical Practitioners to reduce overprescription and therefore side effects of just about every drug available.
