DescriptionThis days course covers occlusal splints, occlusion and how to fix it. Topics include occlusal splints for TMD, bruxists, clenchers, headaches, TMJ clicks, TMJ pain, snorers, tooth wear and cracked tooth syndrome. The practical elements cover the clinical records including facebows and occlusal records through to the fitting and adjustment of all splints including Michigan and Tanner appliances. On this lecture and table top based practical course you will fit a variety of splints onto phantom head models, including the adjustment of Michigan splints.

Aims

The aim of this course is to teach the important features of occlusion and how different splints can be used for a variety of common problems seen in general practice.

Objectives

By the end of the course delegates should;

  1. understand when and how to intervene in a safe and ethical way for occlusal related problems
  2. appreciate when to use each type of occlusal splint
  3. be able to take the clinical records for each splint including impressions, jaw registrations and facebow records where necessary
  4. be able to fit and adjust each splint
