Description: Imposter Syndrome or Phenomenon is defined as ‘a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evidence of success’. ‘Imposters’ suffer chronic self-doubt and are unable to internalise their accomplishments however successful they are in their field. This phenomenon is surprisingly common. It can get in the way of professional progress and job satisfaction. Because it is so common, it can be helpful to discuss it in a group setting, explore what it is, how it affects you and what you can do about it. This one-day interactive workshop looks at what Imposter Syndrome is, how it gets in the way of our work, and then more importantly what tools are available to manage it. The day will include evidence-based solutions using ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) techniques. ACT has a huge body of evidence behind it and an impressive pedigree in providing practical tools that are easy to grasp and use.

Description: With the growing number of staff being supervised by GP’s across their primary care networks, through the ARRS framework or direct employment, it is essential that trainees have the opportunity to learn to supervise others safely and effectively as they transition to independent practice. This course will consider what knowledge and skill is essential for all and what additional knowledge and skills might be suitable to add for good/excellent trainee. We will discuss a possible teachable model of case supervision that can be used in real time by clinicians in practice using a focus group methodology.

Description: We're all getting better at helping trainees study more wisely, to use revision techniques that make knowledge stick and help them pass But what can we do to help busy trainees who struggle to create the structure, systems and headspace to put these techniques to work? In this seminar, organisational psychologist Ryan Offutt will share insights from his five years' experience working with GP trainees who have failed their exams. Ryan will guide a conversation about the most common contextual and psychological barriers to effective revision. Ryan will also suggest specific coaching conversations you can use to help your trainees avoid common revision problems, study more wisely and feel at their best on exam day.
