Spring School Day 2 - AM Workshop - Helping Trainees with Challenges-Starting the conversation – the hardest part? (GP13MAY21b)
Availability | Course has taken place |
Subject | GP Prospective Trainers |
Description | Helping trainees with challenges sounds like something we should be really good and we probably are, yet broaching the subject can be daunting** Out of our comfort zone **When we think about broaching the subject we are ‘troubled’ because we sense we are about to step into a potentially fraught area or conversation. We may have to discuss a performance issue such as timekeeping, or record keeping; it may be a communication issue or a behaviour that is proving unhelpful.** There is uncertainty because we do not know how the trainee will react, and we may feel we are stepping into a culturally sensitive area and we might ‘get it wrong’ ** All of this combines to push us out of our ‘comfort zone’ and as our uncertainty increases our confidence diminishes. Yet we are experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated trainers – what is happening? |
