DescriptionPaul Wilson and Hatem Algraffe will be bringing together their combined experience in Periodontology and Restorative dentistry to explore the perio-restorative interface. The day will focus on treatment planning for periodontal susceptible patients, screening for periodontal disease (including the new classification), maintenance and what to do when despite our best efforts treatment plans fail. All members of the dental team are very welcome. This course is suitable for PVLE dentists.

Paul graduated from Glasgow University with Honours in Medical Biochemistry and Dental Surgery. He completed postgraduate specialist training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Guy's & St Thomas' Dental Institute, King's College London, and the University of Alberta, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons.

Paul is the Director of Bath Dental Clinic, as well as Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. There he is responsible for oral rehabilitation of head and neck cancer patients, and oro-dental trauma. He is also Lead for Dental Core Training (DCT) in Oxford and sits on the Restorative Dentistry Managed Care Network (MCN).

Paul was Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Senior Clinical Lecturer at Bristol Dental Hospital and The Royal United Hospital, Bath, from 2006 until 2014. At Bristol Dental Hospital he was Lead Consultant for Oral Rehabilitation.

Hatem Algraffee

BDS MSc MClinDent MRD RCS MFDS RCS

Hatem Algraffee qualified as a dentist from the Royal London Hospital. He then worked in an oral and maxillo-facial surgery department, followed by several positions for various health authorities and general practice. He completed four years full time specialist training in Periodontology at Guys London Hospital. He was awarded a Masters Degree (MSc) in Periodontology and Masters in Clinical Dentistry (M.Clin.Dent) from Guys Hospital. This was followed by the award of the membership in restorative dentistry (MRD) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

His previous positions were as a Specialist Clinical Teacher at Guys Hospital, as a Senior Dental Officer for Hammersmith and Fulham Trust, visiting lecturer at postgraduate centres and as a Postgraduate Dental Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has lectured at many postgraduate centre’s, at webinars and study clubs.

Hatem now dedicates his time to Periodontics in private practice and lecturing for PerioAcademy

Aims

This highly interactive and clinically relevant day will update the busy dental practitioner about the perio-restorative interface and how to pragmatically manage it.


Objectives

Following the course, delegates will:

  • Be more confident in patient screening and assessment of periodontal disease
  • Be able to apply the new Periodontal Classification in practice
  • Have practiced treatment planning and sequencing for the ‘perio’ patient;
  • Understand Maintenance and planning for failure;
  • Have learnt ‘Get out of jail’ strategies.
