Short resume of career to date:
Tim Newton is a Psychologist who has spent over 25 years working in dental settings with the goal of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of good oral and dental health. He is particularly interested in how to support people to ensure that they look after their mouth and teeth to the best of their ability, and how to encourage dental healthcare professionals to work with patients to develop healthy behaviours. Tim is employed by King’s College London as Professor of Psychology as Applied to Dentistry, spending half his time working within the NHS as Honorary Consultant Health Psychologist. Tim’s clinical work is particularly focussed on individuals with dental phobia, and support for individual’s facing challenging dental procedures.

Tim is also a Trustee of the Oral Health Foundation.

Experience relevant to the topic:
Tim has undertaken research into the stress experienced by the dental team, including the design and interventions of interventions to enhance the working life of the dental team. He has worked closely with Fiona Ellwood and Roz McMullan in the development of the Mental Health Wellness in Dentistry initiative.
