Brief Resume of career to date:
April has worked in all fields of dentistry including private, NHS, salaried service, domiciliary, cleft lip and palate clinic, supervision and teaching of dental hygiene students, running a level 3 city and guilds diploma in dental nursing and she is now also working as a mental capacity act practitioner.
She has previous teaching experience of running a dental nursing course and supervising and teaching dental hygiene students, experience of assessing mental capacity, experience advising and supporting staff around the complexities of mental capacity such as executive dysfunction, court of protection applications, objections, disputes and proportional use of restriction and restraint and chairing best interest meetings. She is responsible for teaching and training staff at all levels within RDUH Trust about the mental capacity act and how to apply this in their setting. She has experience of treating patients in a dental setting who need additional support with decision making and of supporting staff to understand when and how to make a deprivation of liberty safeguards application.
