Are you unsure if you are applying the law correctly in these circumstances? Then this is the course for you. This is a practical guide of how to apply the Mental Capacity Act 2005 within a dental setting.

The webinar will be 90 minutes long with an additional optional 30 minutes  for Q & A, sharing examples of capacity issues within the dental setting and discuss as a group if the principles of the MCA were implemented satisfactorily.

The purpose of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and explain the five key principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and how these can be implemented within the dental setting

Possible triggers for doubting a patient’s capacity for a specific decision at a specific time and describe variations in capacity

Explain the two-stage capacity test

Describe how to perform a mental capacity assessment and explain how to record a mental capacity assessment

Formulate a form which can be used to record their mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions

Describe how to identify the best interest decision maker

Explain how to utilise the best interest checklist

Describe the roles of a lasting power of attorney, Office of the Public Guardian and Independent mental capacity advocate

Demonstrate how to validate a lasting power of attorney

Explain circumstances in which further advice/support should be sought
