Aims

To provide an interesting day to widen the delegates knowledge in a number of topics.

Objectives

Learning objectives:

Sustainable dentistry

Have an awareness of key organizations, current activity and key sources of information and challenges relating to sustainable dentistry

Understand what is meant by ‘sustainability’ and why it is important to improving the health and wellbeing of patients and staff

Have the knowledge and practical skills needed to improve the environmental sustainability of your dental practice/working environment

 

Medical Emergencies

Describe the ABCDE approach to assess & treat the acutely ill patient (to include respiratory arrest especially with a growing number of asthmatic patients)

Outline the treatment for medical emergencies (including the use of EpiPen`s)

List the signs and symptoms of sepsis

Discuss the protocols that dental practises and dental laboratories should have in place if a medical emergency should occur.

 

Infection Control

Understand the germ theory of disease and how infection spreads in the dental environment

Understand the infectious diseases that are of significance in dentistry

State the standard precautions that should be in place for the delivery of primary dental care and in a dental laboratory

 

Dental Technicians and Dentures

Understanding some of the processes that dental technicians' do and how you can use that knowledge in the surgery.
