Aims

To give GDPs and dental teams an opportunity to find out more about current approaches to TMJ disorders and their treatment.

Objectives

By the end of the afternoon, delegates will:

  • Have revised the anatomy of the TMJ
  • Have knowledge of how the joint works
  • Have knowledge of what happens with disc displacements.
  • Have knowledge of how the lateral pterygoid muscle works.
  • Have knowledge of the conservative management of TMJ Disorders and TMJ Arthroscopy.
  • Have knowledge of some related facial pain conditions.
  • Have knowledge of the range of conditions for which surgery has a role, including surgical approaches to the TMJ (arthroplasty surgery and TMJ Replacement)
Learning outcomes

At the end of the afternoon delegates should have a rational basis to decide how best to deal with their patients with TMJ problems and/or have reassured themselves that their approach to this disorder is sound
