Description: The first of these 2 days on perio management in general practice covers the latest thinking on disease epidemiology and aetiology. Screening for periodontal diseases is addressed in detail followed by assessment methods and how to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. Treatment planning principles for periodontal management will then be discussed and the course will finish with tips on achieving better levels of self care and contemporary thoughts on non-surgical therapy, including the role of antimicrobials.

Description: This is a free interactive and practical training session on oral health and dementia, designed for the full Dental Team (dentists, nurses, hygienists, practice managers and receptionists). Ian is one of a handful of people appointed to a national panel set up by the Prime Minister to improve community support for people with dementia. In conjunction with Professor Val Mann (Plymouth University), Hilary Cragg (Solicitor at Nash and Co, Plymouth), Dorothy Tudor and her husband Bob (individual with dementia and his carer), and the Community Engagement Team at the Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise, this multidisciplinary team have designed a solution-based training programme. Topics covered include: Introduction to dementia - Ian Sherriff, Academic Lead for Dementia; Medical aspects of dementia - Professor Val Mann, Plymouth University; The carer and individual with dementia’s view and experiences of dentistry – Dorothy Tudor and Bob Tudor; and Oral Health and dementia - Community Engagement Team, Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise.
