Until recently he was the Senior Consultant in Restorative Dentistry for the Defence Dental Agency. Bill has been selected by Nobel Biocare to help train dentists in the use of their implants. He is very well known as a high quality clinician and teacher in the UK and overseas. This study day provides practical experience in removable partial denture design, and guidance on the diagnosis and management of patients with complete and partial denture problems, all in an informal, lively and informative atmosphere.

Description: This is an evening seminar covering Law and Ethics in dental practice. Although the target audience is mainly dentists and DCPs, this may be of interest to other members of the dental team. The course will run between 18.30 - 20.30 with registration and a cold buffet from 18.00. Our speaker, Paul Gray, will cover NHS Acts and Regulations and their implications for dental practice. This will be highlighted with some case study examples. Other topics include the NHS Contract and the functions of the General Dental Council. Paul is a Senior Clinical Adviser with NHS Dental Services and is a part-time clinical teacher at Bristol Dental Hospital.

Description: An all-day programme which includes seminars on key aspects of dental occlusion, the cardinal aims, patient examination, techniques for assessing and recording the occlusion, use of splints. Practical includes use of articulator, using a facebow, recording occlusal positions, creating a customised incisal guidance table, fabricating a Lucia jig, applying the understanding of occuslion to treating tooth wear. Topics covered: Features of an ideal occlusion; Deciding which occlusal position to use; When to change the OVD; Determining Centric Relation; Using a facebow; Obtaining occlusal records; Choosing & using an articulator; Applying an understanding of occlusion to everyday practice, from simple restorations to the management of advanced tooth wear; Use of splints: soft, hard, Michegans, Tanners, Mandibular Advancement Splints… ***Participants are required to bring a set of own upper and lower models (trimmed with thin base) for the hands-on element.***

Description: Brian Millar BDS FDSRCS PhD Director of Distance Learning, KCL and Bill Sharpling RDT MBA DipCDT,RCS(Eng) Director of the London Dental Education Centre - An all-day programme which includes techniques of assessing and improving a smile as well as carrying out trial build-ups and aesthetic mock-ups before committing your patient, or yourself, to treatment. There will be discussion on techniques covering colour change by bleaching and the use of tools for prescribing highly aesthetic and effective diagnostic wax-ups plus how to communicate this effectively to the dental laboratory and also effectively use the information to assist your patient in understating the improvements that may be possible. There will be some hands-on to compliment the theory and composite build-ups and trial restorations will be produced.
