Lecturer profilePaul Bowie is a safety scientist, medical educator and chartered ergonomist & human factors expert with over 25 years of experience leading and collaborating in research, innovation and educational development to improve the quality and safety of healthcare in the UK and internationally. He has also provided expert risk and safety consultancy to medical defence, commercial healthcare and military organisations.

Paul gained his doctorate in significant event analysis from the University of Glasgow in 2004 and has published over 120 articles in international peer-reviewed healthcare journals. He has also coedited a book on safety and improvement and contributed multiple chapters to many books on human factors, patient safety and quality improvement in healthcare.

Paul is Honorary Professor and a PhD supervisor/examiner in the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow, Honorary Senior Lecturer to the MSc in Patient Safety and Clinical Human Factors at the University of Edinburgh and Adjunct Professor to the PhD Healthcare Quality program at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada. He is Honorary Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of General Practitioners, and a Registered Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.

Lecturer profileWorked in the medico-legal/indemnity field since 1989, initially as a member of the original Board of Dental Protection Limited, then as a dento-legal adviser and ultimately Dental Director for 18 years (to 2016). Also a member of the Executive Committee of Medical Protection Society (MPS) and its Board of Directors (Council) for 15+ yrs. Kevin has written and lectured in the UK and internationally for 25 years on medicolegal topics.

Lecturer profileTim Newton is Professor and Consultant in Psychology as applied to Dentistry at King’s College London Dental Institute. He is also Honorary Consultant Health Psychologist to the Office of the Chief Dental Officer (England) and holds Honorary Professorships at University College London and University College Cork. An IADR distinguished scientist, he is a World authority on the application of psychological theory in dentistry.

Lecturer profileProf Wright has been a principal partner of Glencairn Dental group of practices since 2002. He is a Founding Director of both Dental Implant Resource Ltd, and the ICE Hospital and Postgraduate Training Centre. He is the Clinical Lead for the portfolio of Dental
Postgraduate Masters course of Dental Implantology at Salford and Edge Hill University.
Prof Wright has a personal chair at the University of Salford, awarded for his practice and teaching in Dental Implantology. He lectures nationally and internationally on Dental Implantology and Human Factors. He is the co-author of the FGDP National Standards in Implant Dentistry - to be published later this year.
