Lecturer profileMy professional life began in the Royal Air Force, where I served for over two decades in a range of dental roles across the UK and internationally. Those years gave me a strong clinical foundation, but they also introduced me to something that would become increasingly important: healthcare is never practiced in isolation. After leaving the RAF, I continued working in clinical practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist while moving into teaching, postgraduate education and research. I later completed a Master's in Medical Education at the University of Bedfordshire, exploring social presence in online learning. That work reinforced my growing interest in how environments influence behaviour, learning and professional practice. Today my work explores how systems shape health. Through research, writing, speaking and professional education, I investigate how environments influence behaviour, how institutions shape professional practice, why prevention struggles within treatment-oriented systems, and how education and long-term thinking can help create healthier futures.
