Speaker Mr Timothy Ives

Tim is a qualified Buteyko Breathing Practitioner, dental professional and postgraduate teacher. His co-authored book, LipZip: breathe better to live better is based on real patient cases that he successfully coached and are now benefiting from healthy nasal breathing.

Tim now spends his time writing, teaching, consulting & speaking.

He graduated as a dental hygienist in the Royal Air Force (RAF) and then began a world tour for 22 years in the RAF before going into private practice.

In 2012 Tim graduated as a teacher and in 2015 with a Master of Arts Degree in Medical Education.

Tim is a co-founder of O’Hehir University, the world’s first virtual international university for dental hygienists and therapists.

In 2014 he became the first non-US based hygienist to be invited to join the American Academy of Dental Hygiene and Tim also sits on the BSDHT Education Group.

Aims

To gain a greater understanding of the general, oral health, and facial developmental benefits of nose versus mouth breathing in children and adults.

Objectives

The Presenter will:

Discuss the causes of mouth breathing.

Demonstrate healthy breathing.

Explain simple steps to ensure healthy facial and airway development though healthy breathing.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the session the delegates will be able to:

Recognise oral and facial changes associated with mouth breathing.

Describe the link between mouth breathing, sleep disorders, ADHD and metabolic syndrome.

Explain the connection between jaw development and airway in children and adults.
