| Lecturer profile | Dr Martin Fulford BDS MPHIL DGDP FIBMS, GDC 61504 originally trained as a microbiologist and spent 13 years as a practical medical microbiologist before retraining as a dentist. For the next 17 years he worked as a general dental practitioner during which time he managed to combine clinical dentistry with research, mainly in the field of infection control. Martin was a member of the NICE group that rewrote the guidelines on the prophylaxis of Infective Endocarditis and has also been a member of the Health and Science Committee, with a particular interest in infection control, of the British Dental Association. He is currently the Dental Adviser to his Local Area Team of NHS England and has appeared on over 100 occasions as an Expert Witness at GDC Fitness to Practice hearings. |

| Lecturer profile | Anna qualified from Dundee University in 1990. Following qualification she moved down to Cornwall in the South West of England and worked mainly in General Practice for 8 years. During her time in Cornwall she also worked in the local hospital treating people with special needs and spent time with the salaried dental services.
In 1999 Anna moved from Cornwall to take up a post with Buckinghamshire Community Dental Services (CDS) again focussing on providing care to those with special needs. Whilst with the CDS she completed her Masters in Public Health and moved into the post of CDS Clinical Director. As Clinical director she was responsible for service which covered a population of approximately 800,000 and had over 120 staff.
In 2008 Anna was accepted onto a three year Dental Public Health specialist training programme. Following completion of specialist training Anna took up a Consultant in Dental Public Health post in the north of London before moving to her current Consultant post in the South East of England (as part of the 2013 NHS reorganisation). Anna is employed by Public Health England and her role is focussed on the counties of Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire where she works with the NHS and Local Government to improve oral health and reduce health inequalities.

| Lecturer profile | Susie has been a GDP and partner in a mixed family practice in Sheffield for most of her career and is now a Dento-legal Adviser for Dental Protection (MPS).
Involved in the BDA at both local and national level, she has contributed in a wide variety of areas including healthcare policy, education, regulation, standards and ethics, the dental team and General Dental Practice Committee (GDPC). Susie was the elected Chair of the BDA’s Executive Board from 2006 to 2012 and a member of the Principal Executive Committee until 2015. Susie was Chair of Sheffield LDC for a number of years and was elected chair of UK LDC Conference in 2005. Internationally, Susie was until recently Honorary Treasurer and Board member of the Council of European Dentists and represents the UK at the FDI World Dental Federation. Over the last ten years she has built relationships with European policy makers working on behalf of the CED and the BDA to inform the implementation of the globally agreed 2013 Minamata Convention on Mercury. She also continues to lead CED’s work on AMR and represents FDI on a WHO expert group on workforce education and training in AMR/AMS.
Susie is a member of Public Health England’s dental subgroup of ESPAUR and works in various fora to raise awareness of the risk management issues associated with antimicrobial prescribing in general dental practice.

| Lecturer profile | Mike qualified at the University of Dundee in 1979 (BDS), obtained MGDS in 1993, and is a Fellow of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners. In 2009 he gained a Master’s degree in the Legal Aspects of Medical Practice from the University of Cardiff, and he is on the GDC specialist list for oral surgery. Mike has extensive experience in NHS, private and corporate dentistry, and experience in oral surgery in both primary and secondary care. He has been a vocational trainer for a number of years, and is a former senior clinical teacher in oral surgery at Guys Hospital, London. He has published articles in a number of peer-reviewed dental journals. In addition to his role at MDDUS, Mike continues to work in a mixed NHS/private practice and provides oral surgery on referral in primary care. |
