Aims

This study day is designed to equip Oral Surgery specialty dentists in training with the knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skills required to assess and manage facial trauma safely and effectively, through use of interactive case based discussion and practical simulation training in mandibular fracture management.

Objectives

· To develop a structured approach to the assessment of facial trauma using ATLS principles

· To enhance diagnostic skills for mandibular, midface, and dentoalveolar injuries

· To improve decision-making and justification of management plans

· To introduce principles of mandibular fracture fixation and plating techniques

· To reinforce recognition of complications and appropriate escalation

Learning outcomes

By the end of this study day, participants will be able to:

. Perform a structured assessment of facial trauma patients using ATLS principles

. Diagnose mandibular, midface, and dentoalveolar injuries using clinical and radiographic findings

. Formulate and justify appropriate management plans for facial trauma cases

. Demonstrate safe and effective mandibular plating techniques on simulation models

. Identify complications of facial trauma and outline appropriate management strategies
