Description: 'Smile Design' is a fairly recent term that applies biometric guidelines to the art of arranging teeth in a pleasing manner within the borders of the lips. Its origins are in full denture design but nowadays it usually applies to the management of fully dentate patients and can involve the disciplines of periodontal and oral surgery, orthodontics, tooth whitening and many aspects of restorative dentistry. It was only in 1983 that adhesive bonded restorations appeared in the dental literature but over these 25 years guidelines and protocols have been developed. Modern porcelains in conjunction with adhesive resins give the dental profession the ability to achieve highly aesthetic results. This day will be an overview looking at the theory and practice of these dental restorations.
