Aims

To use the knowledge and experience of your ESs to help you treatment plan relevant to the needs of your patients in general practice and adapt these treatment plans according to the needs of the individual patients. We shall also discuss how best to treat elderly patients and our paediatric patients.

Objectives

· To understand the principals of treatment planning and the importance of your short term treatment planning decisions for the long term dental health of the patient

· To understand different dentists will produce different treatment plans

· To understand no one treatment plan fits all patients and patients should be involved in their treatment plans.

· Understand treatment plans may need to be adapted due to age and disability

· Have a few tips to manage paediatric patients

Learning outcomes

At the end of the session FDs should

Ø Have increased confidence in treatment planning

Ø Understand they may have to adapt their treatment plans to the needs of their patients

Ø Have increased confidence managing paediatric patients
