Aims

The aim of this webinar is to update knowledge of local anaesthetics used in dentistry, in order to make informed choices for best practice.  

Objectives
  • Understand toxicity, and medical histories in relation to local anaesthesia.
  • Discover how to manage dental anxiety, fear and phobia when delivering local anaesthesia
  • Discuss needle phobia, the mechanisms that cause it, and techniques for management
  • Look at reasons why local anaesthesia might fail
  • Understand how to deliver inferior dental blocks and infiltration anaesthesia
Learning outcomes

After this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Evaluate the different types of local anaesthetic agents and constituents of a cartridge
  • Can describe the importance of vasoconstrictors and on which patients a plain solution should be used
  • Can demonstrate a method for calculating toxic dose of local anaesthesia
  • Can communicate what adverse reactions might occur
  • Can describe what to do and the reasons for local anaesthesia not working
