Nicola is a Partner in Xperient Training Consultancy, specialising in communication skills workshops for the dental profession. Apart from her training work with Xperient, Nicola runs the ‘Out of Place’ project, raising money for charity by bringing together new writing and new music on the themes of displacement and emigation.

Short resume of career to date:
Nicola worked as a professional actor for the first 20 years of her career, gradually moving into drama-based training and consultancy. Her company Xperient was set up in 2007 with colleague Ian Sanders and now works in all sectors with teams of associates all over the world, including America and the Far East. In 2001 Nicola became a lay member on two accountancy disciplinary boards. She spent 10 years at the GDC on the Fitness to Practise panel from 2001-2014 and continues to work with the GDC, training new chairs and panellists. She chairs hearing for the British Institute of Interior Designers and sits on appeals for the Construction Industry Council.

Nicola has worked in training for over twenty years, starting as a role player in hospital OSCEs and now running her own consultancy.

Xperient Training Consultancy has been providing professionalism workshops for the dental team since 2008. Facilitator Nicola Burnett Smith was for ten years a Lay Member and Chair of the General Dental Council Professional Conduct & Health Committees and has seen the pressures that dental professionals face in a highly regulated profession.

Since 2008 we have run the course in the Deaneries at Cardiff, Swansea, Oxford, Rhyl, Leeds, Stafford, Lincoln, Nottingham, Kettering and Aberdeen.

Some of these were for the whole dental team as CPD and some focussed on the challenges facing Year 5 and DF1 dentists.

Nicola has also run sessions to help DF1 tutors/Educational Supervisors deal with the challenges of working with newly qualified dentists.

Ian is a Partner in Xperient Training Consultancy working with Nicola on these Dental CPD events and at the GDC training Fitness to Practise Panellists. Ian is also a specialist in creating effective and interactive Equality and Diversity and Mental Health Awareness Training in all sectors. Apart from his training work, Ian works with young children on large drama events in his local region.

Ian Sanders started his working life in the City in IT and then changed career to go to Bristol Old Vic theatre school to train to be a professional actor which he did with great success for 20 years, gradually moving his skills into drama-based training and consultancy. His company Xperient was set up in 2007 with Nicola Burnett Smith and together they now work in all sectors with teams of associates all over the world, including America and the Far East. Ian enjoys specialising in working in the health care sector and, like Nicola, is fascinated by communication and gets great satisfaction from helping people to navigate the challenges of their daily working life more successfully.
