DescriptionPlease join the Orthodontic MCN for the CPD element of their meeting. Rebecca Isles, Consultant in Special care Dentistry will be providing an overview of the barriers and facilitators experienced accessing dental & orthodontic care by neurodivergent patients. She will help us identify appropriate reasonable adjustments for the workplace and to improve communication and access to orthodontic and dental care.

This CPD session is aimed at all those that work in a team providing orthodontic treatments.

Aims

The aim of this webinar is to update knowledge of Neurodiversity and increase confidence amongst the Orthodontic team in supporting and managing neurodivergent patients who require orthodontic treatment.


Objectives

By the end of this webinar participants should be able:

  1. To recognise the spectrum of neurodiversity, and the characteristics of common neurodivergent conditions.
  2. To describe the challenges which neurodivergent patients experience when accessing dental & orthodontic care.
  3. To identify key considerations for improving access to dental & orthodontic care, including how to implement reasonable adjustments.
  4. To recognise and overcome barriers when communicating with neurodivergent patients.
Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to provide an overview of the barriers and facilitators experienced accessing dental & orthodontic care by neurodivergent patients, and ensure that appropriate reasonable adjustments are provided within the workplace.
