Aims

Understand the use of CT, MRI, CBCT relevant to Oral Surgery conditions and pathology

Objectives

• To review the use of CT and MRI in identifying Head and Neck pathology and as a diagnostic tool

• To identify the differences between CT and MRI scans

• To review normal anatomy on CT and MRI scans

• To identify and describe pathology in CT and MRI scans relevant to Oral Surgery

• To apply CBCT in cases of third molar surgery, the orthodontic-oral surgery interface, implant planning and cyst pathology

Learning outcomes
  • On completion of the session, trainees will gain increased understanding and confidence in the use of CT and MRI scans and identification of normal anatomy, as well as recognising common pathology.
  • On completion of the session, trainees will learn to systematically review a CBCT scan and how to apply the findings to determine treatment options and planning.
