DescriptionTessa is the new Dental Manager for the Area Team in the SW and has extensive knowledge and experience in management and the NHS. She will be bringing some of her dental team to the study day to help make this a very interesting session. Dr Peter Burbridge specialises in the care of the elderly and will be bringing his extensive medical knowledge to the study day to help us understand how best to care for our older patients.
Additional information

This study day is joint with the Devon and Coastal scheme.

The day will be hosted by ESs due to both TPDs being seconded for interview duties by the Deanery.

Aims

Bring an understanding of the skills required to manage a practice

Increased awareness of legal and NHS requirements

1) Be able to recognise/diagnose frailty in people presenting for dental treatment

2) Understand the key relevance of frailty on dental practice

3) Recognise the adverse effects of medications in frail people on both oral health and overall health

Objectives

Appreciate the skills needed to manage effectively

Know more about employment law and management skills

Know about some of the specific issues with caring for the older patient

Be aware of medical complexities when treating older patients.
