Aims

To provide an overview of the mucosal lesions that require an onward referral for specialist assessment and to discuss how to identify and diagnose malignant lesions and oral cancer that clinicians may come across in everyday dental practice.

Objectives

By the end of the course the participants should have:

1. An overview of the range of oral mucosal lesions that may present in general dental practice;

2. An awareness of the clinical presentation of oral potentially malignant lesions and oral cancer;

3. An awareness of the diagnostic approach to oral mucosal lesions in specialist oral medicine practice.

Learning outcomes

The participants should be able to recognise the mucosal lesions that require an onward referral for specialist assessment and should be able to identify and diagnose malignant lesions and oral cancer that may come across in everyday clinical practice.
