SubjectTreatment planning
DescriptionThis is a fabulous opportunity to hear Prof Avijit Banerjee outline and explain the minimum intervention oral healthcare (MIOC) delivery framework to manage caries in primary care; using the oral healthcare team workforce to develop, with the patient, susceptibility-based, prevention-oriented personalised care plans/ pathways. This integrated patient-focused, team-delivered two-way phased approach will encourage appropriate healthy behaviour and the maintenance of sustainable lifelong good oral and general health in individuals and populations. Prof Banerjee will provide an overview of the scientific and clinical evidence base for the MIOC framework used in caries prevention in patients across their life-course. Clinical case examples will help demonstrate some of the latest evidence-based clinical techniques for primary, secondary and tertiary caries prevention including its minimally invasive management.
Additional information

Prof Avijit Banerjee is  an international clinical academic expert in MI Dentistry, who currently holds an Hon. Consultant Advisor post to the Office of the Chief Dental Officer, England.

Aims

This webinar will provide an overview of the scientific and clinical evidence base for oral healthcare team- delivered implementation of the four interlinked domains of the minimum intervention oral care (MIOC) framework used in caries prevention in patients across their life-course.

Objectives

By the end of this webinar participants will be able to:

  1. Give definitions of practice-based MIOC and its four interlinked domains and its implementation in primary care with workforce utilisation
  2. Explain Primary caries prevention including patient behaviour change
  3. Describe secondary caries prevention
  4. Use the principles of tertiary caries prevention – minimally invasive operative intervention of deep lesions with selective caries removal and adhesive restoration
  5. Have heard about opportunities for postgraduate blended education (masters in Advanced Minimum Intervention Restorative Dentistry at King’s College London
Learning outcomes

By the end of this lecture delegates will be able to enhance patient care by optimising all aspects of the caries prevention pathway using minimum intervention oral care (MIOC) principles:

  1. Definitions of practice-based MIOC and its four interlinked domains of identification, prevention/control, minimally invasive operative intervention and recall/review.
  2. Non-operative primary caries prevention: OH, diet, mineralisation balance, patient behaviour influence / communication
  3. Secondary caries prevention: sealants, infiltration
  4. Tertiary caries prevention – minimally invasive operative intervention of deep lesions, selective caries removal principles
  5. Utilising oral healthcare team members
