Short resume of career to date: I qualified in dentistry at Bristol University in 1999 and completed my Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry in 2006 (Royal College Surgeons, Edinburgh). I provide management of patients with head and neck cancer and developmental disorders. My specialist interests include multidisciplinary care of patients with orthodontic-restorative needs and the rehabilitation of cancer patients with dental implants. As the Managed Clinical Network chair in Restorative Dentistry for the Southwest I am developing a network across the region to help provide specialist services to all patients and improve quality of care. I have a passion for education. I am clinical lead for the Exeter Education Facility and Associate Professor in Clinical Education in Plymouth University. I have played an active role in the development of the dental virtual patient a tool to develop treatment planning skills and I am responsible for the clinical dentistry modules in the final year of the undergraduate program. I am also a module lead for the postgraduate cert/diploma/masters in Restorative Dentistry and leading on advanced restorative dentistry techniques in year 2. I am the Training Program Director for Restorative Dentistry in the Southwest and Honorary Secretary of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry both of which allow me to share my enthusiasm for my specialty

Short resume of career to date: Michael qualified as a Dental Hygienist in the late seventies, spending his early career in the Royal Air Force. In 1997 Michael joined National Health Service holding a variety of management appointments ranging from developing the special care dental service, commissioning dental contract, was General Manager for Head and Neck services at University Hospitals Bristol which included the management of the Bristol Dental Hospital, the Dental School for the University of Bristol and salaried dental service. He is a past president of British Society of Dental Hygienists and Therapists and a trustee of the Oral Health Foundation. Currently Michael combines a role in general dental practice, with training members of the wider dental team. Michael is dental workforce advisor to HEE, programme manager for dental apprenticeships and a dental workforce transformation tutor for HEE South West. In this role his focus in largely improving oral health awareness across the wider health and social care professions. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Kent and is one of a small number of dental professionals on the Public Health Advisory Committee of the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence and is an external expert with OFQUAL.
