Short resume of career to date:
After medicine in Aberdeen and house jobs in Glasgow, I undertook SHO post in OMFS in East Grinstead. After demonstrating anatomy in Cambridge, I moved to Galway, Ireland to undertake “old style” basic surgical training followed by registrar posts in maxillofacial surgery in Galway and Limerick. In 2010 I returned to the UK to study dentistry at Guys and in 2013 started an academic StR post in OMFS in Bristol.
I have undertaken cleft and ear reconstruction (microtia) missions in Philippines (2005-2018), India (2018)and Ecuador(2018)
Experience relevant to the topic:
I was first an SHO in OMFS in August 2006 and have been assessing head, neck and dental infections in the middle of the night ever since!
