Qualified as a dentist in June 2013 from Plymouth University Peninsula Dental School, as a postgraduate.
Since then Shameen has completed SHO posts in Oral Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Birmingham and Exeter.
She started working for the Somerset Primary Care Dental Service 5 years ago, and has been a Senior Dental Officer for two years.

Short Resume of Career to Date:
Judy qualified as a Dental Hygienist in the early nineties spending her early career in the Royal Air Force, gaining experience in the military practice setting in the UK, Germany and Nepal. In addition Judy worked in the hospital setting receiving a commendation for working with special care and cancer patients. Judy has a long standing commitment to dental education both as a tutor dental hygienist in the RAF and for 12 years at Bristol Dental Hospital. Judy, for many years was responsible for the curriculum development of the BDS Undergraduate program in Bristol including regulation for both the BDS and Dental Hygiene programs to ensure that they meet the requirements of the GDC document ‘Preparing for Practice’. Judy currently continues to be a tutor in Bristol, plans and coordinates delivery of training for TePe and until recently worked in general dental practice. She enjoys taking part and delivering oral health initiatives.
She is an active member for the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) at regional group level and is involved in peer review and eCPD independent review of BSDHT clinical journal submissions. She takes part in and supports worthy oral health education initiatives. In her spare time she enjoys spending time walking with her dog and enjoying her garden.
She believes that it is important as registrants to maintain clinical competency in the skills that we have been trained to do. It is essential that we communicate our Scope of Practice to not only the Dental Team we work with, but to the patients in our care and the general public. This ensures that all of our competency skills are utilised to provide the best possible treatment outcomes and experience for those patients in our care.

Rachel is dually qualified Consultant in Oral Medicine working in the Bristol Dental Hospital. After completing a degree in Dentistry from Bristol in 2004, she worked as a general and hospital dentist in the North East of England before completing a degree in Medicine, back in Bristol. After FY1/2 I began speciality training in Oral Medicine on a part time basis, using the other 2 days of the week to remain engaged in acute medicine, based in the Acute Medical Unit of the BRI. She began her current post in April 2017 and her time is largely split between provision of NHS out-patient clinics and her role with the University, teaching on the Oral Diseases, Human Disease undergraduate courses, and the Oral Medicine and Pathology post-graduate MSc.

Jessica completed her undergraduate at the University of Sheffield. She then completed her DCT1 in Community dentistry in Portsmouth and DCT2 in Dental Public Health and Special Care Dentistry Surrey. Jessica carried out her Speciality training in Special care at Bristol Dental Hospital, and then worked as a Specialist in Special care Dentistry for the Wiltshire Community Dental Service. Jessica is currently working as a Consultant in Special Care dentistry at Bristol Dental Hospital.

Jessica has previously published in the British Dental Journal and has been a speaker at national conferences such as the BSG and BGS.

Rosie completed her Dental Foundation Training in Edinburgh and the Lothians working in general practice, community dental services and the Edinburgh Dental Institute. She then went on to do Dental Core Training in Cardiff (maxillofacial) and Dundee (paediatric and oral surgery) before coming to Bristol to complete her specialty and post-specialty training.
She has been working as a consultant in paediatric dentistry in Bristol since January 2018

Michael qualified as a Dental Hygienist in the late seventies, spending his early career in the Royal Air Force. In 1997 Michael joined National Health Service holding a variety of management appointments ranging from developing the special care dental service, commissioning dental contract, was General Manager for Head and Neck services at University Hospitals Bristol which included the management of the Bristol Dental Hospital, the Dental School for the University of Bristol and salaried dental service.
He is a past president of British Society of Dental Hygienists and Therapists and a trustee of the Oral Health Foundation. Currently Michael combines a role in general dental practice, with training members of the wider dental team. Michael is dental workforce advisor to HEE, programme manager for dental apprenticeships and a dental workforce transformation tutor for HEE South West. In this role his focus in largely improving oral health awareness across the wider health and social care professions. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Kent and is one of a small number of dental professionals on the Public Health Advisory Committee of the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence and is an external expert with OFQUAL.
