Aims

A one-day seminar/workshop on the impact and application of the IR(ME)R “Core of Knowledge” in Dentistry. It will include revision of prior knowledge, provide updates on the impact of the latest legislation. It will provide guidelines on the appropriate implementation, management and impact on clinical practice of this legislation.

Objectives

 By the end of the day you should be able to:

         Describe the nature and effects of ionising radiation
         Define the sources of radiation dose to the UK population
         Identify and quantify some of the radiation risks involved in dental radiology
         Outline the principle components of the IRR1999 and 2000 legislation
         Identify the impact of the legislation on clinical practice
         List appropriate quality control measures
         Describe the radiographic audit process
         Identify considered “best practice”
