Description | This day is a fantastic opportunity again hands on practice along with the theory of placing preformed metal crowns and undertaking extractions on primary teeth. The day will be held in a clinical skills facility and will be a small group. This course is aimed at dentists and dental therapists who carry out peadiatric extractions and place preformed metal crowns as part of their scope of practice. It is also suitable for those working towards a performer number. |
Additional information | As this course is taking place in a clinical environment, delegates will need to ensure they dress appropriately. Please bring a scrub top and please do not wear jeans. No catering is provided but there is a cafe in the building and on campus and plymouth shopping centre is nearby. |

Aims | The aim of this course is to improve understanding of the: 1. scientific basis behind preformed metal crowns and to provide an opportunity to practice preformed metal crown placement on models AND 2. theoretical knowledge and practical application of extraction techniques for the primary dentition on models |
Objectives | By the end of this course delegates should: 1. be able to describe the scientific basis, indications and contraindication for preformed metal crowns 2. be able to explain the procedure to place preformed metal crowns 3. recognise the complications that they could encounter after restoring a primary molar with a preformed metal crown 4. have practiced placement of preformed metal crowns on model 5. be able to describe the indications and contraindication for primary tooth extractions 6. be able to explain the procedure to undertake primary tooth extractions 7. recognise the complications that they could encounter during and after a primary tooth extraction 8. have practiced primary tooth extractions on models covering patient positioning, clinician positioning, and extraction technique |
Learning outcomes | By the end of this course: Delegates should have improved knowledge regarding case selection for preformed metal crowns, including tooth factors and patient factors. Delegates should have improved confidence with the practical technique for placement of preformed metal crowns. |
