Description | This hands-on course is a fabulous opportunity for dentists to practice their MOS skills using anatomical models. Pippa and Simon will be covering effective use of elevators, forceps , case selection, flap design, bone removal suturing and suturing using anatomical models for hands on practice. This will be a small group (no more than twelve dentists) with lots of opportunity for questions and discussion. | ||||||||
Additional information | All dentists are very welcome. This course is suitable for people working toward their Performer Number, Foundation Dentists and those returning to practice. If you are looking to extend your skills, this may not be the course for you. Look out for 'Management of Minor Oral Surgical Complications', next happening in Exeter on 11th December 2024

Aims | An interactive course to review principles of oral surgery and provide hands on training in surgical skills including flap design, bone removal, use of elevators and suturing using anatomical models. | ||||||||
Objectives | 1. To outline the scope of Oral Surgery and professional obligations in general practice. 2. To review the surgical principles required for oral surgery. 3. To practice suturing techniques on model simulations. 4. To practice raising flaps, bone removal, sectioning teeth, elevation and lunation of teeth on surgical models. 5. To discuss postoperative management of the surgical patient. | ||||||||
Learning outcomes | On completion of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Recognise your personal scope of safe practice and professional obligations. 2. Describe the principles of 'good' surgical technique. 3. Demonstrate surgical techniques of raising a flap, removing bone, sectioning teeth, elevating roots and suturing on a surgical model. 4. Demonstrate the important elements of post operative care of a surgical patient. | ||||||||
