Aims | To be able to anticipate, recognise and manage common oral surgery complications. |
Objectives | By the end of the session, participants should be able to anticipate, recognise and manage common complications associated with oral surgery in primary and secondary care settings. Complications including but not limited to haemorrhage, infection, displaced roots, oral antral communication and alveolar osteitis. Participants should also be able to recognise, and if necessary refer, patients at risk of complications due to their medical history such as haemophiliacs, immunocompromised and those at risk of infective endocarditis. |
Learning outcomes | Following this study day, the participants should be able to anticipate, recognise and manage common complication associated with oral surgery in primary and secondary care. Participants should be able to recognise patients suitable for management in primary care and those who may require referral to intermediate or secondary care teams. Participants should be able to manage immediate complications and arrange appropriate follow up for patients who have suffered complications. |
