Description | We are delighted to welcome Alison Grant to deliver a session on periodontal instrumentation - covering everything from ultrasonic debridement techniques to how to properly sharpen and care for hand instruments. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice your periodontal instrumentation techniques hands on in a relaxed and supportive environment. We are grateful to both Young's Innovation and Dentsply Sirona with their support in providing ultrasonic scalers and hand instruments for the course. |
Additional information | We invite you to bring hand instruments from your own practice to sharpen. Sharpening tools and ultrasonic scalers will be provided for the session. If you are unable to do this, please contact harriet.buleysnell@nhs.net as we may be able to provide for you. This session is being held in Exeter Dental Education Facility and therefore appropriate clinical attire is required. Please ensure you bring scrubs and clinical footwear, plus loupes if you use them. PPE will be provided. Please note this course is being supported by Young's Innovation and Dentsply Sirona. |

Aims | This course aims to review the practical application of periodontal hand and mechanical instrumentation and includes instrument maintenance for optimal periodontal care. |
Objectives | · Explain the evidence-based concepts of periodontal treatment delivery including classification of periodontal disease and S3 treatment planning guidelines · List the current ultrasonic instrumentation mechanisms, practical applications and describe how to maintain ultrasonic instruments · Demonstrate practical use of a range of periodontal hand instruments and maintenance for optimum use |
Learning outcomes | By the end of this course delegates will; · Recognise effective instruments for ‘Professional Mechanical Plaque Removal’ and describe instrument features · Identify successful techniques with a variety of hand and mechanical instruments for the treatment and maintenance of periodontal disease · Demonstrate a safe sharpening technique for different periodontal instruments |
