DescriptionJim Carey (Associate Professor and Consultant in Oral Surgery at Peninsula Dental School) and Malcolm Prideaux (Associate Dean, NHS Workforce Training and Education) look forward to welcoming you to Truro on December 18th for an opportunity to develop your oral surgery skills. This will be a small group course of no more than 8 dentists, discussing the challenges of taking out teeth that we encounter in practice. You will gain hands on practice raising a flap, removing bone and suturing on realistic surgical models. Prior to the course, we will be in contact ask about you prior experience and learning needs.

All dentists at any stage of their career are very welcome to join us, however this session will be covering basic skills. If you are looking to extend your skills this may not be the course for you. This course is suitable for International Dental Graduates working toward their Performer Numbers.

To improve the confidence of participants when undertaking Minor Oral Surgery in practice.

Objectives

1. Discuss the challenges encountered with dental extractions in practice

2. Identify appropriate instruments and techniques for dental extractions

3. Describe the methods of extracting roots

4. Explain the principles of sectioning teeth for extraction

5. Practice raising flap, bone removal and suturing
