DescriptionDentures are difficult, but can be life changing for our patients. Join us in Bristol, with Neil Nathwani, Associate Professor at the Eastman Dental Institute, who will help us explore how we can improve our techniques for the best possible outcome. We will be covering history taking, clinical examination, treatment planning, consent and crucially - how to manage our patients expectations. Dr Nathwani will discuss complete and partial denture design principles, including attachment systems, immediate dentures and the copy denture technique. We will also look at common pitfalls - and reasons for failure leading to patient dissatisfaction.

All members of the dental team are very welcome to attend - however, this course will be aimed at dentists and clinical dental technicians.

Aims

The aim of this course is to ensure attendees understand the process of complete and partial denture construction and how to apply this to their patients in practice.

Objectives

Following the course, participants will:

1. Be able to generate a differential diagnosis and treatment plan based on evidence through the correct interpretation of clinical findings.

2. Determine patients dentofacial aesthetic requirements, identify the degree to which they can be met, discuss different options and manage patient expectations with regards to missing teeth.

3. Understand which items fall within NHS regulations and which do not, and be able to discuss the consequences of this with the patient in a manner they can understand.

4. Be familiar with the construction of full dentures, including immediate dentures and the copy denture technique

5. Realise the importance of Master Impressions, Bite Registration, Try in and Fit stages

6. Understand and demonstrate modern restorative concepts around complete and partial denture construction together with attachment systems

Course participants will be more confident discussing and providing complete and partial dentures in practice.
