Aims

To gain and update knowledge on Oral Medicine

Objectives
  • Have knowledge of the aetiology and pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of oro-facial diseases and their relevance to prevention, diagnosis and treatment including malignancy.
  • To have awareness of how systemic disease may manifest within the oral cavity and surrounding structures.
  • To have awareness of how to differentiate between common causes of non-dental pain and differentiate from dental pain, including neuropathic and nociceptive pain.
  • Be able to assess a patient, presenting with oral and maxillofacial disease or orofacial pain in primary care, formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis, explain the findings, have understanding of the management and investigations in secondary care of patients that may be referred by GDP with oral and maxillofacial disease and discuss concerns with patient prior to instigating a referral.
